If you press early on prestige techs (and culture techs in general), you can become a Great Power on your own often (although, somewhat late - but Oil is also pretty late only available), then you can get some SoIs. Yeah, try to get some provinces from weak nations like Arabs and so forth. However, tanks are not that useful in the game. Their values arent better, they cost WAY more (although thats no problem late game) and require more, rarer resources. They're a bit better in attacking, granted (Guards 2.0) but equally weaker in defense.

Both infantry & tanks have 29 average damage with full tech. So, you dont miss out that much - besides flavour ofc. (defense is starting 1870 super strong anyway. In SP, thanks to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI, you still can attack, but generally you always want to defend if possible. Luckily, the AI just runs into your stacks. Another reason to prefer Infantry (+Arty ofc))Since you cannot mobilize tanks, the standard 'have all artillery & a few support brigades per army stack ready and then mobilize before a war to get infantry' is still the best option when you want to play efficient.
